Introduction: the feature most patients have never thought about
Ask any patient what they dislike about their face on camera, and most will say “my jawline,” “my nose,” or “my cheeks look tired.” A surprisingly small number will say “my chin.” And yet, the chin is probably the single most under-discussed feature in modern facial aesthetics. The position and projection of the chin governs how balanced the lower face looks, how strong the jawline appears, how defined the neck looks from the side, and how the upper lip sits in relation to the rest of the face.
A small, recessed or slightly off-centre chin can make an otherwise balanced face feel subtly “off,” and most people spend years trying to fix that feeling by treating everything except the chin itself. Nasolabial folds get filler. Cheeks get filler. Lips get filler. And the face still feels slightly out of proportion.
Chin filler is the correction most patients have never been offered. It is also one of the most satisfying dermal filler treatments we perform at Sheridan France, because a small amount of product in exactly the right place can rebalance an entire face without anyone being able to say what changed. This guide walks through what chin fillers do, who benefits, how we approach the treatment in our Central London clinic, and how to avoid the heavy-handed results you may have seen online.
What chin fillers actually do
Chin fillers are injections of a firm hyaluronic acid (HA) gel placed deep into the structural tissue of the chin (usually near the bone) to change the projection, shape or symmetry of the lower face. A skilled injector can:
- Project a recessed chin forwards so the profile is more balanced
- Lengthen a short chin to bring the lower third of the face into proportion
- Correct asymmetry where one side of the chin sits higher or further forward than the other
- Soften dimpling of the chin (sometimes called “pebble chin”) that can appear as the skin ages
- Sharpen the line between chin and jaw for a more defined lower face
Chin filler is often combined with jawline filler; the two treatments share an anatomical story, because a defined chin requires a stable jawline beneath it. Read our dermal fillers pillar guide for how the whole lower face fits together.
Who chin fillers are not for
Chin filler is not a replacement for orthognathic (jaw) surgery in patients with significant structural jaw abnormalities. It is also not the right first treatment for someone whose main concern is actually loose skin at the lower face; that is a skin-quality or skin-tightening conversation. A good practitioner will tell you honestly if you are a better candidate for another approach.
The Sheridan France approach to chin fillers
Chin filler at Sheridan France is never done in isolation. It is always considered in the context of the whole face: your lips, your jaw, your nose, your profile from every angle. A 1 ml syringe of product placed thoughtfully in the chin can have a more dramatic effect than three syringes placed elsewhere, because structural change at the lower face ripples upward across the whole face.

Step one, the consultation and profile assessment
Your chin is assessed from the front, at an angle, and in profile. We take your “aesthetic goals” conversation seriously: some patients want sharper definition, some want more length, some want to soften the puckered appearance that can develop on the chin with age. All of those goals map to different techniques and amounts of product.
Step two, structural placement, minimal product
Chin filler is a firm HA gel, placed deep against the periosteum using a cannula or fine needle depending on the target area. The right amount is almost always less than patients expect. Our philosophy is that the chin should look defined, not added.
Step three, aftercare and review
There is minimal downtime. Mild swelling, tenderness or a small bruise may be present for a few days and settles on its own. A two-week review is part of our service so we can refine the result once the product has fully settled into the tissue.
How long do chin fillers last?
Because the chin is a structural area with limited movement, chin filler tends to be one of the longer-lasting dermal filler treatments. Most patients see results holding for 12 to 18 months, with some lasting longer. A light annual refresh is the most common maintenance pattern among our regulars.
Are chin fillers safe?
HA chin fillers placed by a medically qualified practitioner have a strong safety profile. As with all injectable treatments, minor bruising, swelling and tenderness are common short-term side effects that settle quickly. Rarer complications exist, which is why chin filler should only ever be delivered by a nurse prescriber, dentist or doctor with deep anatomical training. The area is close to important facial vessels and nerves, and a clinician needs to understand precisely where they are placing product. All HA chin filler at Sheridan France is fully dissolvable using hyaluronidase.

Frequently asked questions
Will chin filler make my face look longer?
Only if you want it to. A recessed chin can be projected forwards (which lengthens the face slightly and often improves profile balance), or the chin can be shaped and defined without noticeably lengthening the face. The plan is built around your existing anatomy and your goals.
Is chin filler painful?
Topical numbing cream is used, and the HA products we use contain a built-in local anaesthetic. Most patients describe the procedure as very well tolerated, with a mild pressure sensation rather than significant pain.
How quickly will I see results?
An immediate change is usually visible on the day of treatment, with the final result settling over approximately two weeks once any minor swelling has resolved and the product has integrated with the surrounding tissue.
Can chin filler be reversed if I don’t like it?
Yes. HA chin filler is fully dissolvable using hyaluronidase. This is a reassurance option for nervous first-time patients. In practice, our patients very rarely request reversal, because our approach prioritises restraint over volume.
How much do chin fillers cost at Sheridan France?
Pricing is discussed transparently at the consultation, based on how much product is appropriate for your anatomy and goals. We never recommend more product than you need.
Every face is different. Results shown or described on this page depend on individual anatomy, lifestyle and aftercare. All dermal filler treatments at Sheridan France are delivered only following a face-to-face consultation.
